 Personalized Advertisements Have personalized advertisements gone too far? I have heard talk about how Google and phones listen in to conversations to push advertisements, but is it true? I believe everyone has had a suspicious advertisement pop up soon after a specific search on Google. It seems somewhat helpful for consumers to be advertised targeted products, why would some people want to see unrelated products and businesses when their favorites brands/ useful products can be marketed instead. The ethical side of things is a bit hazy I would have to admit; however, that is the price to pay for the free services online.  In class we looked up our personalized ad profile on Google, and from our searches Google built a profile that matches topics to us. I was sorted into different categories, much like in the slide show, as sex, age range, education, and hobbies. Algorithmic Audiences

 Audiences' on the Inside     We are used to being the audience, or have an understanding that somewhere out there, there is a person consuming types of media. I'm sure we all picture a human person behind a screen of some sort, so what about the audience INSIDE of the screen? Algorithms are essentially problem solvers through instruction and are often used to automate a solution. There's a set of instructions used to find the wanted product, and many describe this as recipes and methods/processes. We typically hear the term algorithm when talking about social media and google searches. There is an array of instances where algorithms interconnect through social medias and websites. This leads towards different se arch results, advertisements, and posts.  After the class discussion and Ted Talk, I was reminded of what is going through my social networks now.  Tempting the Template      Templates are set in place as a guide for both writers and readers to follow. These rules allow people to communicate from a wide range of backgrounds. The "fill in the blanks" are so communication can be personalized and manipulated while also letting readers follow along. In Update Culture and the Afterlife of Digital Writing,  John Gallagher says, "Technologies such as templates are extraordinarily important to communication because they are ideological structures that connects users to other users" (35). While writing in both a professional or creative way, it's important to be aware one may never know who they will come into contact with, so by having a universal way to communicate will be resourceful and helpful to all involved.       Although this was idea wasn't brought up during the class of September 7, 2022, I think the idea of how templates of books and movies are so often reoccurring is because th...
