Self-Publishing
Self-Publishing
One of the main reasons why the internet is so popular is because everyone can have a voice. Individuals can create content on any platform they desire, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, Blogger, and the list can go on. Their opinions and thoughts can be expressed in any manner they choose. Self-publishing authors can choose a subject they want to discuss or a niche they enjoy/want to learn more about. These focuses can include a range of topics from books, recipes, a mutual distaste for something (like cilantro), beauty, skincare, and so on so forth. The major benefit is that the possibilities and freedoms the author has when choosing the content, verbage, and media of their site. The downside is that it can take awhile if the author wants to be popular on social media or in their niche of content or site. A big thing for self-publishing authors is that the post is isolated and drowned out by the million other sites and pages that are being published and circulated on the internet.
A major topic we discussed in class was different topics being displayed how and why. An important thing to note is that your choice of platform has to be coherent and work well with the content you are creating. I think to optimize your content if you know what features will benefit your creations rather than deter or having to minimize your creative liberty with based on what is available and what is not.
Hey Merika! I think you did a great job with this blog and pointing out the aspects of self-publishing. In my own blog post, I only really focused on the positive aspects of self-publishing, but you shed light onto some of the negative things that can be attached to it. Overall, I think self-publishing is more beneficial than not, but it is hard to compete in such a saturated environment.
